ピースボートのクルーズにGETプログラムの英語/スペイン語ボランティア講師として乗船してくれた方たちへのインタビュー、“ChatWith a GET Teacher! (GETの先生とおしゃべり)”。
世界中から参加し、多様で豊かなバックグラウンドを持ったGETの先生たち。

そんな先生たちがどうしてピースボートへ参加したのか、ピースボートでどんなことを感じたのか、現在は何をしているのかを聞いていきます。

第14弾の今回は、ピースボートV115に英語講師として参加した Giulio(ジュリオ)のインタビューをお届けします!

1. What were you doing before joining Peace Boat?
ピースボートに乗船する前は何をしていましたか?

Before joining the 115th Voyage, I was a science teacher for an international school and university.

2. How did you find out about Peace Boat or the GET programme, and why did you come on board?
ピースボートやGETプログラムを知ったきっかけと、乗船した理由を教えてください。

I found out about Peace Boat during the COVID lockdown while searching online for interesting future programs. When I came across the GET program, I thought it was amazing, I believed being on board would have be a new challenge and an opportunity for professional development. Plus, the idea of traveling the world sounded great.

3. What did you enjoy most about being a GET Teacher?
GETの先生になって一番楽しかったことは何ですか?

Definitely the interaction with the students, the GET family, and being part of the continuous education program on Peace Boat. Once you connect with the students’ lifestyles, you realize that they are looking for your support to achieve their goals, and they truly appreciate your work.

4. How did you spend your time on board? Did you organize any events, and if so, what were they?
船内ではどのように過ごしましたか?もしイベントを企画していたのなら、どんなものを企画しましたか?

At the beginning of the voyage, I mainly prepared teaching materials, socialized, and made plans for the next port of call. But I have to say that life on board is very dynamic, so there was a bit of everything. I also organized events about the Northern Lights or the Italian culture, both of which were fun experiences.

5. What was your favorite on board event or encounter?
船内でのお気に入りの出来事や出会いを教えてください。

Life on board was so full of events and encounters that it’s difficult to pick just one. I would say that the departures from different ports were always special moments, but also meeting the CC team and passengers as we shared memories along the voyage.

6. What was your favorite port and what did you do there?
お気に入りの寄港地はどこで、何をしましたか?

Reykjavik was my favorite port. I visited the city center and joined a tour to the Blue Lagoon. I felt like there was so much more to explore, and definitely is one of the ports I would have loved to stay in longer. Maybe next voyage!

7. What did you gain from your time with Peace Boat?
ピースボートで過ごした時間から得たものは?

The experience of being on board is inspiring in itself and I gained a deeper sense of the size of our planet, the interconnectedness of cultures, and the importance of promoting peace alongside education. These values transcend age, so it’s never too late to get involved.

8. Where are you now and what do you do?
今はどこにいて、何をしていますか?

I’m back in Italy, continuing my teaching and focusing on Sustainable Environment.
I actually also just returned from a second short voyage, this time as a guest speaker, which was an exciting opportunity to be part of Peace Boat again.

9. What advice would you give to future teachers?
未来の先生たちへのアドバイスをお願いします。

Get ready for an incredible adventure! It won’t be always easy and you’ll need to be as resourceful as possible. Your talents will be needed, so be ready to shine Peace boat is great experience I wish you will have the chance to have.

10. What advice can you give to a student who wants to improve their English/Español?
英語/スペイン語を上達させたいと思っている生徒さんへのアドバイスをお願いします。

Don’t hesitate! Learning a new language will expand your horizons and help you better understand other cultures, interact more meaningfully at ports of call, and become a global citizen. Come and join the GET program it will enrich your travel experience.

11. Do you have a message for your students?
自身の生徒さんたちへのメッセージをお願いします。

Arigatou gozaimasu (Thank you in Japanese)! I have many wonderful memories from my students. It was my pleasure to work with you and you also inspired me. Thanks for your work. Well done, everyone!
