ピースボートのクルーズにGETプログラムの英語／スペイン語ボランティア講師として乗船してくれた方たちへのインタビュー、“ChatWith a GET Teacher! (GETの先生とおしゃべり)”。
世界中から参加し、多様で豊かなバックグラウンドを持ったGETの先生たち。

そんな先生たちがどうしてピースボートへ参加したのか、ピースボートでどんなことを感じたのか、現在は何をしているのかを聞いていきます。

第24弾の今回は、ピースボートV115、V119と約1年以内に2度の地球一周を果たした英語講師のEdith（イーディス）のインタビューをお届けします！

1. What were you doing before joining Peace Boat?
ピースボートに乗船する前は何をしていましたか？

I was a full-time teacher in Australia.

オーストラリアでフルタイムの英語教師をしていました。

2. How did you find out about Peace Boat or the GET programme, and why did you come on board?
ピースボートやGETプログラムを知ったきっかけと、乗船した理由を教えてください。

Via Workaway, which is an online site to find volunteer work. I loved the idea of going around the world in a boat.

Workawayというボランティア活動を探すオンラインサイトで知り、 船で世界一周するというアイデアが気に入りました。

3. What did you enjoy most about being a GET Teacher?
GETの先生になって一番楽しかったことは何ですか？

The atmosphere between staff as well as the interesting conversations with the students.

スタッフ間の雰囲気や生徒たちとの会話を楽しみました。

4. How did you spend your time on board? Did you organize any events, and if so, what were they?
船内ではどのように過ごしましたか？もしイベントを企画していたのなら、どんなものを企画しましたか？

I participated in several public round table discussions and did a talk about Australian Aboriginal culture and art.

自由に意見交換や討論をする会に何度か参加し、オーストラリアのアボリジニの文化や芸術についての講義をしました。

5. What was your favorite on board event or encounter?
船内でのお気に入りの出来事や出会いを教えてください。

Some of the guest speakers were really remarkable.

ゲストスピーカーの何人かは本当に素晴らしかったです。

6. What was your favorite port and what did you do there?
お気に入りの寄港地はどこで、何をしましたか？

Many wonderful ports. Difficult to make a choice. Maybe Panama and Liverpool. We used to walk around a lot to see the sites and try the local food.

素晴らしい寄港地がたくさんあったので選ぶのは難しいですが、パナマとリバプールですかね。私たちはよく歩き回って観光地を見たり、地元の料理を食べたりしました。

7. What did you gain from your time with Peace Boat?
ピースボートで過ごした時間から得たものは？

Incredible memories, wonderful friends and new ways to look at things from the point of view of different cultures.

信じられないような思い出に素晴らしい友人、そして異文化の視点から物事を見る新しい視点ですね。

8. What advice would you give to future teachers?
未来の先生たちへのアドバイスをお願いします。

Do as much as you can; there are so many things to experience. And enjoy the process.

経験できることがたくさんあるので、とにかくできるだけ何でも経験し、そしてその過程を楽しむことが大切だと思います。

9. What advice can you give to a student who wants to improve their English/Español?
英語／スペイン語を上達させたいと思っている生徒さんへのアドバイスをお願いします。

Try to speak to as many people as possible in the language you are learning and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

学習言語でできるだけ多くの人と話してみてください。そして間違いを恐れないでください。

10. Do you have a message for your students?
自身の生徒さんたちへのメッセージをお願いします。

Learning a new language should be enjoyable; relax and don’t make it stressful.

新しい言語を学ぶことは楽しいものであるべきです。リラックスして、ストレスにならないようにしましょう
