1. What were you doing before joining Peace Boat?

Before coming to PB, I was working as a Spanish teacher in Singapore, in a secondary school. I have always loved to travel and I had been involved in various volunteer projects before, so Peace Boat seemed like the perfect match for me.

2. How did you find out about Peace Boat or the GET programme, and why did you come on board?

Through a blog about volunteering related to language teaching around the world. I wanted to do something that combined my passion for teaching and travelling the world.

3. What did you enjoy most about being a GET Teacher?

What I enjoyed the most is the relationship with the students because you spend a lot of time with them. You create a little family on the boat, there are moments that are not easy but having your tribe helps you and makes the experience 100 percent better.

4. How did you spend your time on board? Did you organize any events, and if so, what were they?

Time flies by because there are so many things to do. I organised several cultural events and social activities. I didn’t know what day I was living in and I often felt like I was in another world, time goes by very quickly if you organise and get involved. It seems like an endless time from the outside but when it’s over you can’t believe you’ve spent almost four months there.

5. What was your favorite on board event or encounter?

What I liked the most were the events I attended the most, such as the sports day or the opening and farewell parties. Also the workshops and talks with the speakers who came to the ship. You have the opportunity to meet people who do things and lead incredible projects around the world. Very inspirational.

6. What was your favorite port and what did you do there?

My favorite port was probably New York, it’s unique to get there by boat. Also the days in Alaska, incredible scenery and peace.

7. What did you gain from your time with Peace Boat?

A much more global view of the world, it gives you the opportunity not only to visit countless countries but also to meet people from all kinds of different backgrounds.

8. Where are you now and what do you do?

I am now living in Lisbon and working as a Spanish teacher in a secondary school. Happily I think I will stay on land for a few months but I am sure I will meet Peace Boat again!

9. What advice would you give to future teachers?

Enjoy every day, meet and talk to different people and always keep calm and positive in difficult days.

10. What advice can you give to a student who wants to improve their English/Español?

I always recommend having friends who speak the language and find something you like to do in your own language but in the language you are learning. If you like to cook you can watch cooking videos in that language or if you like to listen to music you can listen to music in that language.

11. Do you have a message for your students?

You were the best part of my experience and I am sure we will always keep in touch. See you around the world!

Thank you, Ceci!!
