ChatWith a GET Teacher! Vol.8 Charlotte Megret

ピースボートのクルーズにGETプログラムのボランティア先生として乗船してくれた方たちへのインタビュー、“ChatWith a GET Teacher! (GETの先生とおしゃべり)”。世界中から参加し、多様で豊かなバックグラウンドを持ったGETの先生たち。

そんな先生たちがどうしてピースボートへ参加したのか、ピースボートでどんなことを感じたのか、現在は何をしているのかを聞いていきます。

第8弾となる今回は、ピースボート 88回クルーズ(2015年8月出航)・96回クルーズ(2018年1月)・97回クルーズ(2018年3月)に参加した Charlotte（シャーロット）のインタビューをお届けします！

1. What were you doing before coming on board Peace Boat?(ピースボートに乗船する前は何をしていましたか？)
   Before my first voyage, I graduated from university in Canada and worked as a teacher in Barcelona for a year. Between the voyages, I continued traveling the world, finding exciting educational opportunities and discovering wonderful places and people.
   最初のクルーズの前は、カナダの大学を卒業し、バルセロナで教師として働いていました。クルーズとクルーズの間は世界を旅し、ワクワクするような教育の機会を探し求め、素晴らしい場所と人々に出会い続けました。
   

2. How did you find out about Peace Boat or the GET programme? (どうやってピースボートやGETのプログラムについて知ったのですか？)
   I knew I loved teaching and I loved sailing. So I googled “teaching on a boat” and couldn’t believe it when I found out about Peace Boat!
   教えることと船旅が大好きだったので、『船の上で教える』と検索してピースポートを見つけた時は信じられませんでした！
   

3. Why did you come on board? (なぜ乗船しようと決めたのですか？)
   I was amazed at how the GET teaching philosophy so closely echoed my own. I see languages as a communication tool to create bonds between people. I had taught in places where the focus was on languages as only a subject students needed to “pass”. I was excited to work with people who shared a similar philosophy, mainly that languages are fun!
   GETの教育哲学が自分のものととてもよく似ていることに驚きました。私は言語が人と人とのつながりを生み出すコミュニケーションの道具だと捉えています。言語を生徒が『合格』するのに必要な科目としてだけ捉えているところで教えたことがありました。ですので、主に『言語は楽しいもの』といった、同じような理念を共有できる人たちと働けることにワクワクしました。
   

4. What did you enjoy most about being a GET Teacher?（GETの先生として最も楽しんだことはどんなことですか？）
   Surprisingly, the part that I most enjoyed wasn’t necessarily visiting new ports (although that was fun!). It was the life on board and the tight community that I loved most. Having so many interesting and various events hosted by everyone was just wonderful! But most importantly, I made friends from around the globe, for life.
   驚くことに、一番楽しかったことは必ずしも新しい寄港地の訪問ではありませんでした。（もちろん楽しかったのですが！）私が最も楽しんだのは、洋上生活であり、私が大好きだった親密なコミュニティでした。皆が主催した面白い様々なイベントが実に素晴らしかったのです！でも、もっと重要なのが、世界中から集まった一生の友だちができたことです。
   

5. How did you spend your time on board? Did you organize any events, and if so, what were they?
   (船内ではどのように過ごしていましたか？もしイベントを企画していたのなら、どんなものを企画しましたか？)
   Apart from the GET events, I loved organising and attending any dance events (Zumba, Polynesian Dance, Salsa…). I also enjoyed the many guest speaker lectures, and spending time with them outside of hours. But of course, most of my time was spent with the GET and CC team, working hard and having even more fun!
   GETのイベント以外は、ダンスの企画（ズンバ、ポリネシアンダンス、サルサ・・・）全て企画するのも参加するのも大好きでした。もちろんほとんどの時間はGETとCCチームと過ごし、一生懸命働いていたのですが、その方が楽しかったくらいです！
   

6. What was your favorite on board event or encounter? (船内でのお気に入りのイベントや出会いを教えてください。)
   I think the Sports Festival will always be a favourite memory of mine! I had never taken part in such an event before and everyone on board worked so hard to make it an unforgettable day. I will also never forget sharing breakfast with Ella Ghandi or drinks with Scott Ludlam!
   運動会が常に私のお気に入りの思い出だと思います！それ以前はそんなイベントに参加したことがありませんでした。船内の皆が忘れられない1日にするためにとても頑張っていました。エラ・ガンジーさんと朝食をとり、スコット・ラドラムさんと一緒に飲めたことも忘れられません。
   

7. What was your favorite port and what did you do there?(お気に入りの寄港地はどこですか？そこでどんなことをしましたか？)
   There are too many to choose from! I think ports that I had an emotional attachment to were the most memorable. Like going back to Christchurch to see 88th GET teachers Chiaki and Ryan, or going back to Noumea, where I was born.
   多すぎて選べません！愛着の強い港が最も記憶に残る場所だと思います。88回クルーズのGETの先生ちあきとライアンに会えたクライストチャーチと、私が生まれたヌーメアを再訪できたことです。
   

8. What did you gain from your time with Peace Boat?(ピースボートで過ごした時間から得たものは？)
   First of all, I made long-lasting friendships with incredible people who continue to inspire me everyday. I learned the importance of cultivating supportive communities, wherever I am around the world. Peace Boat has also made me realise I wanted to pursue a career that was anchored in sustainability as much as possible.
   先ずは、毎日私に刺激を与え続けてくれる素晴らしい人々と長く続く友情を結んだことです。世界中のどこにいても支えになってくれるコミュニティを育てることの大切さを学びました。ピースボートはまた、私が可能な限り持続可能性にしっかりと繋がった仕事がしたかったことに気づかせてくれました。
   

9. Where are you now and what do you do?(今はどこにいて、どんなことをしていますか？)
   I just graduated with a Masters Degree in Outdoor Environmental Education in Edinburgh (Scotland). I decided to stay in Scotland (for now!) and am enjoying the beautiful landscapes and working with children in the outdoors.
   エジンバラ（スコットランド）でアウトドア環境養育の修士課程をちょうど卒業したところです。スコットランドに滞在することにしました（今のところは！）。美しい風景を楽しみ、外で子どもたちと接しています。
   

10. What advice would you give to future teachers?（未来の先生たちへのアドバイスをお願いします。）
    Go for it and make the most of it! Don’t be afraid to delve into the tight community that gets created on board. On my first voyage, I tended to mostly hang out with other teachers and students, but on my other two voyages, I met so many more people! It made the experience even more interesting.
    まずはやってみて、そして存分に楽しんでください！船内で作られる親密なコミュニティを掘り下げることを恐れないでください。最初のクルーズでは、多くの時間を他の先生や生徒と過ごしましたが、他の2クルーズでは、さらに多くの人に出会いました！そうすることで私の経験はより面白くなりましたよ。
    

11. What advice can you give to a student who wants to improve their English/Español? (英語やスペイン語を上達させたいと思っている生徒へのアドバイスもお願いします。)
    Find the reasons why you want to improve your language skills and understand what motivates you the most. Is it making new friends? watching foreign films? traveling? Use these motivations to keep you learning and make sure the way you learn matches those goals.
    言語スキルを伸ばしたい理由を見つけ、自分を一番やる気にさせることは何かを見つけてください。新しい友だちを作ること？外国映画を見ること？旅行すること？学び続けるためにこれらの動機を用いて、自分の目標と学んでいることが合っていることを確認してください。
    

12. Do you have a message for your students? (自身の生徒さんたちへのメッセージをお願いします。)
    I hope everyone is doing well! I miss all of you very much, and hope you are still practising English, Espanol or even French! If you ever come to Scotland, let me know. I’d love to meet up again.
    皆さんお元気でお過ごしのことと思います！皆さんに会えなくてとても寂しいです。今でも英語やスペイン語、ひょっとしてフランス語も練習していることを願っています。スコットランドに来ることがあったら、連絡してください。是非またお会いしたいです。
