ChatWith a GET Teacher! Vol.10 Annica Curtis

ピースボートのクルーズにGETプログラムのボランティア先生として乗船してくれた方たちへのインタビュー、“ChatWith a GET Teacher! (GETの先生とおしゃべり)”。世界中から参加し、多様で豊かなバックグラウンドを持ったGETの先生たち。

そんな先生たちがどうしてピースボートへ参加したのか、ピースボートでどんなことを感じたのか、現在は何をしているのかを聞いていきます。

第10弾となる今回は、ピースボート 102回クルーズに英語講師として参加した Annica（アニカ）のインタビューをお届けします！

1. What were you doing before coming on board Peace Boat?(ピースボートに乗船する前は何をしていましたか？)
   Running a coaching programme in schools.
   いくつかの学校で、コーチングプログラムを運営していました。
   

2. How did you find out about Peace Boat or the GET programme? (どうやってピースボートやGETのプログラムについて知ったのですか？)
   I was on the JET programme and a colleague told me about it – I thought it sounded amazing.
   JETプログラムに参加していて、その時の同僚が教えてくれました。それは素晴らしい、と思いました。

3. Why did you come on board? (なぜ乗船しようと決めたのですか？)
   Honestly, I missed living in Japan and this was a nice way to reconnect with Japanese culture, whilst also making new friends and new experiences.
   正直なところ、日本での暮らしを恋しく感じていました。
   新しい友達を作り新しい経験をしながら、日本の文化と再びつながるよい方法だと思ったのです。
   

4. What did you enjoy most about being a GET Teacher?（GETの先生として最も楽しんだことはどんなことですか？）
   I loved both the group lessons and private classes with students. It was so nice to see students improve their communication and develop over the voyage.
   生徒たちとのグループレッスンとプライベートレッスン、どちらもとても好きでした。
   クルーズが進むにつれ、生徒たちがコミュニケーション力を高めていくのを見れて、とてもよかったです。

5. How did you spend your time on board? Did you organize any events, and if so, what were they?
   (船内ではどのように過ごしていましたか？もしイベントを企画していたのなら、どんなものを企画しましたか？)
   As an extrovert, I spent my time hanging out with people on board the ship. I attended a lot of events, and spoke at one event titled education around the world, where I talked about the education system in the UK, and how private schools and state schools differ in the UK.
   私は外交的なタイプなので、船内ではだれかと一緒に時間を過ごすことが多かったです。たくさんのイベントに参加しました。また「世界中の教育」というイベントでは、UKの教育システムについてお話ししました。特に私立と公立の学校がどう違うのかについて説明しました。
   

6. What was your favorite on board event or encounter? (船内でのお気に入りのイベントや出会いを教えてください。)
   My favourite event, it was actually the departure ceremonies whenever we left the country. Whilst it wasn’t an official organised event, it marked togetherness of all of the participants on board the ship and there was the excitement as we set sail for our next adventure.
   私のお気に入りのイベントは、実は寄港地を離れる際の「出港式」でした。出港式は、必ずしも正式な「イベント」という訳ではありませんでしたが、船の参加者がみんな１つになる瞬間であり、次の冒険へと向かうワクワク感がありました。
   

7. What was your favorite port and what did you do there?(お気に入りの寄港地はどこですか？そこでどんなことをしましたか？)
   I loved all of them! The one that stood out to me the most was Honolulu – I spotted a Sea turtle , and also hiked up a mountain. I was toI also celebrated my 30th birthday with new friends I made on board the ship which was a very special memory.
   どの寄港地もとてもよかったです！特に印象に残っているのはホノルルです。ウミガメを見ることができたり、山登りもしました。そして船で出会った新しい友人たちに、30歳の誕生日をお祝いしてもらったのも、すごく特別な思い出です。
   

8. What did you gain from your time with Peace Boat?(ピースボートで過ごした時間から得たものは？)
   I gained a lot of confidence in terms of speaking and communicating with people from around the world. Along with this, a real insight into how people in different countries live.
   世界中の人々と話したり、コミュニケーションをとることに関して、大きな自信を得ました。それとともに、他の国々の人々がどのように暮らしているのか、実際に知ることができたと思います。
   

9. Where are you now and what do you do?(今はどこにいて、どんなことをしていますか？)
   Right now, I’m back home in my hometown, Cambridge UK. I work for the university, recruiting candidates who want to undertake an MBA to develop their business skills. It’s definitely very different to Peace Boat – but I’ve always worked in education.
   今は、地元であるイギリスのケンブリッジに戻ってきています。大学で働いていて、ビジネススキルを伸ばすためにMBAを取りたい人を募集・採用する仕事をしています。ピースボートとはもちろん全然違う仕事ですが、変わらず教育にまつわる仕事をしています。
   

10. What advice would you give to future teachers?（未来の先生たちへのアドバイスをお願いします。）
    The advice I would give new teachers is to say yes to everything! I hope they have just amazing experience as what I did on the 102nd voyage.
    新しい先生たちにアドバイスをするとしたら、「全てにYes と言う」ということ！
    私が102回でそうであったように、素晴らしい経験をしてもらいたいです。

11. What advice can you give to a student who wants to improve their English/Español? (英語やスペイン語を上達させたいと思っている生徒へのアドバイスもお願いします。)
    Keep practising! Find a language exchange buddy and don’t give up!
    練習を続けてください！Language exchange buddy (言語を学び合う仲間)を見つけて、あきらめないことです。

12. Do you have a message for your students? (自身の生徒さんたちへのメッセージをお願いします。)
    Hope to see you again!
